Co-Founder
Abobakar Sediq Miakhel
Abobakar is a refugee from Afghanstan and now living in Belgium. He is our lead programmer of the AILEM app with experience including but not limited to java, xml, flutter, python, html and more. Abobakar can also speak more than 8 languages. Recently, he has been chosen as one of the finalist in UNESCO "Digital Games of Peace", as well as an European Commission Peace Ambassador in the 2022 One Young World conference.

Xinyao Liu
Xinyao is born and raised in the international metropolis of Hong Kong. With her background with app startups and entrepreneurship, Xinyao is involved from the general operations of the app, from coming up with new features of the app to managing budget and making new connections. Additionally, she is involved with the curriculum of the app from her experience of learning French, Chinese, English and Arabic.

Head of Marketing
Muhammad Sagar Ali
Sagar is the head of marketing at AILEM. He has extensive experience in managing international projects, participating in ESU debate competitions, managing sustainability projects in Japan, leading sea cadets and 24 Hour Race team, producing conferences, etc. He has also participated in STEM projects such as GreenPower Education Trust Challenge and REV robotics, as well as represented his school in Spain and Turkey on Erasmus+ programmes.
OUR AILEM INTERNS

Curriculum Intern
Maha Yamagami
Maha is from Japan and she is involved in the curriculum team. She works with AILEM because she agrees with AILEM’s goal. She values the opportunity to help refugees which she never had back home. She would like to offer and contribute towards the curriculum in the app. Maha also participates in Atlantic Pacific, in which she does first-aid training and build rescue boats to help refugees.

Marketing Intern
Sera Senaratne
Sera is Japanese and Sri Lankan but grew up in the international city of Hong Kong. She is an intern of the Marketing team and has helped innovate a game in the app. Her experiences working with refugees in Hong Kong and in Wales has helped her to bring new ideas to the team. Sharing knowledge has always been a passion of hers and she loves AILEM’s mission to educate and provide support to refugees.

Marketing and Visual Arts Intern
Amirali Rezaei
Amirali is the one and only Iranian student at UWC Atlantic College, in which he found out about AILEM! And as of his background, he has always been interested in different projects and voluntary opportunities with the missions to make the world a better place, and so by following that passion he worked on different social benefit projects until now, where Amirali entered AILEM as an marketing and visual intern.

Curriculum Intern
Yeva Doskalchuk
Yeva is from Ukraine, and she is an AILEM intern in the curriculum team. Previously, she has experience in creating Ukrainian curriculum in AILEM and helping refugees learning English in Romania.

Fundraising Intern
Michal Mačinga
Michal Mačinga is from Slovakia where he lived his entire life. At AILEM he is in charge of fundraising for community education projects that our platform initiates. Currently, his main work focuses on the refugee camp in Malawi. Apart from that, Michal utilises his knowledge from running a small digital advertising agency in his home country to find the best ways to expand the impact and reach of our app.

Curriculum Intern
Paulo Francisco Agostinho Aguiar
Paulo is the only Angolan, born and raised, student at UWC Atlantic College. He is an intern for the AILEM@AC project. He joined AILEM because he is passionate about working towards helping people and making the world a better place. He is also involved and working in the Marketing team and Curriculum team, as a Portuguese translator and creator.

Visual Arts Intern
May Zhang
May is from Wenzhou, China, and has couch-surfed in 16 countries. Her life is a canvas where design seamlessly addresses real-world challenges, and art is interwoven into her daily narrative. The unique approach of the AILEM team in assisting refugees, coupled with the creative potential of AILEM, captivated her interest. Eager to contribute, May brings her design and marketing expertise to enhance AILEM, fostering better connections with and support for refugees.

Visual Arts Intern
Venus Yick
Venus' work is seen in many designs across the app from vector graphics to animations. She has provided many stellar designs that enhances the aesthetics of the app and merchandise.

Netherlands Coordinator
Munir Shehada
Munir is a Syrian refugee who has been spearheading our refugee activities in the Netherlands. A very welcome addition to the AILEM family and determined to help refugees and asylum seekers in his community.

Malawi Coordinator
Innocent Ndizeye
Innocent is a refugee residing in Dzaleka, Malawi. With his expertise in event management, Innocent is currently leading a team in curating local refugee events at the refugee camp. His fluency in Swahili and English has allowed the entire app to be translated into Swahili.

Ambassador
Sepehr Saadat
Sepehr was born in Iran and spent most of his life there. With a love and passion for writing and oracy, he is involved all the way from translation to ambassadorship - representing AILEM from Eton to Radley and wherever he goes

Apurbo Zunaid
I am Apurbo Zunaid from Bangladesh, leading an AILEM refugee project in Bangladesh. Currently, I hold the position of Managing Director at Homeacademy BD, an organization that collaborates with the ICT Ministry of Bangladesh to promote education on skills that empower individuals to achieve financial independence. Homeacademy BD has received funding from IDEA for its innovative initiatives. I joined AILEM as a translator, responsible for translating its courses from English to Bangla. I am passionate about AILEM's mission to assist refugees worldwide in integrating into their new societies. By leveraging my language skills, I aim to bridge the communication gap and facilitate the learning process for individuals seeking to rebuild their lives.

Amanda Yingcharoen
Amanda is our talented UI/UX consultant from Thailand, helping to shape and improve our app design. Her work was ingrained from the start of our app development, especially with the integration of the space themed parts of the app.
